Art Title: "step on a crack, break your mother's back"

Description: assemblages with manipulated digital prints, wood, paper, gesso

Statement:
"step on a crack, break your mother's back" the nursery rhyme warns.  and no one really wants to step on the cracks. no one really wants the responsibility or the consequence.

and what if all those cracks connected? what if there was a giant cosmic design? what if the design was that of a grand and complicated labyrinth for all humankind? a labyrinth guiding and leading, as labyrinths do. what if its complication was only in its cracked detail and its complete overall design was the ultimate in simplicity?  after all, unlike the maze, a labyrinth has no false leads. and what if we all miss that simplicity every day in a world of cracked pavement?  paving meant for erasing, but only growing crack by crack. more vital day by day, stepped on or not.

step back.

what if you really did break your mother's back?
